Interested in a board position?

The nomination period is September 15th through November 1st each election year. You may nominate yourself and/or any other NVC member in good standing.


Are you or your NOMINEE eligible?

Nominees for President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary must demonstrate a minimum membership for a period of 4 out of the 6 previous membership years, all in good standing with NVC, to be eligible to be nominated for elected positions. 


Nominees for the Member at Large positions must demonstrate a minimum membership for a period of 2 out of the 3 previous membership years, all in good standing with NVC, to be eligible to be nominated for elected positions.


how much of a commitment are these roles?

As an entirely volunteer-run club, we greatly appreciate your commitment. For any role within our organization, we generally expect a time commitment of approximately 4 hours per week. Under the current president, our meetings are held weekly, and we expect board members to attend at least half of them. There may also be additional time outside of meetings depending on what responsibilities are assigned to you. Your involvement is essential to our success, and we’re excited to work together to make a positive impact in our volleyball community!


What are the responsibilities of each role on the board?

President

The President is the chief officer of the Newport Volleyball Club (NVC). Responsibilities include conducting all meetings of the Executive Board and General Membership, nominating individuals for ad hoc committees, and coordinating the activities of the other board members. The President sets the tone and direction for the club, ensuring that all actions align with its mission and values.


Vice President

The Vice-President shall assume the responsibilities of the President in the event of the President's absence, resignation, or incapacity, and shall be responsible for other functions as assigned by the President.


Treasurer

The Treasurer maintains the financial records of NVC and oversees associated bank accounts. This position involves submitting regular written financial reports to the membership, ensuring transparency and accuracy in all financial matters. The Treasurer plays a critical role in managing the club’s budget and financial health.


Secretary

The Secretary shall be responsible for taking, distributing and maintaining the minutes of the meetings of the Executive Board and General Membership, for handling any necessary correspondence for NVC and for maintaining and updating these Bylaws and the Rules and Policies of NVC.


Members at Large

Members at Large attend Executive Board meetings and provide additional representation for the General Membership. They may take on appointed positions or other functions as assigned by the President. This role is vital for offering diverse perspectives and ensuring the needs and opinions of the general membership are well-represented.
